# Man City news today: Premier League player of the year, Phil Foden praise and more

There has been plenty of reaction after Manchester City’s 3-0 victory over Crystal Palace, while the focus is beginning to shift to Saturday’s FA Cup final.

Read all about the latest news concerning the Citizens here:

## Phil Foden praises Erling Haaland after crossing significant milestone

Last night was all about Foden, but the ever modest midfielder has opted to sound the praises of Erling Haaland, who remained on the bench.

Foden was made aware of all the players to have surpassed 100 goal contributions for Man City, prompting him to describe the Norwegian striker as a club ‘legend’.

He told [Sky Sports](https://www.skysports.com/): “It’s not a bad list. Happy to be on that list, to be honest. The players you’ve just named there are City legends, even Erling already I’d say is a City legend.

“To be on that list, to get my 100th goal and assist, it means a lot to be honest. Gre

## Erling Haaland and Antoine Semenyo receive player of the year nominees

The contributions of two Man City players have been acknowledged by the [Premier League](https://www.premierleague.com/en/news/4656517?utm_source=x&utm_medium=organic-social&utm_campaign=awards&utm_content=pots26), as they have received nominations for the player of the season award.

Erling Haaland and Antoine Semenyo are both options in the eight-man vote which includes representatives from five different clubs.

City are one of only two teams to have more than one player nominated. Arsenal are unsurprisingly the other side, with three candidates up for the award.

Also, Pep Guardiola has been shortlisted for manager of the season, which was bound to happen when the club sit second in the table.

## Oliver Glasner describes Man City’s unpredictability

Crystal Palace have a Conference League final later this month which is the club’s priority. Nevertheless, they still did their best to half City in their tracks.

This was ultimately not enough, and Oliver Glasner has put this down to how ‘unpredictable’ the Citizens can be.

He told [Sky Sports](https://x.com/SkySportsPL): “We tried, so everybody tried, but it’s not too easy against a team like City, against players like City who, just see the first goal, it’s just unpredictable.”

On Antoine Semenyo’s goal, Glasner added: “Phil Foden passes with the backheel into space and then we were a little bit late here and then we were surprised and then the clinical finish.”

## Pep Guardiola on Phil Foden

Manchester City are playing to win silverware right now, and Phil Foden is someone who has already won six Premier League titles, five Carabao Cups and the Champions League.

The England international has often been a key contributor to his club’s successes, and he showed exactly why against Crystal Palace.

Impressed by Foden’s performance, Guardiola told [Sky Sports](https://x.com/SkySportsPL): “He’s a player with incredible attributes, otherwise he would not have been many years as an academy player, many years being here winning six Premier Leagues, all the trophies that we won together.

It’s because his contribution has been amazing!”

## Micah Richards says Phil Foden is magic

Reflecting on Foden’s assist, Micah Richards waxed lyrical over the spectacular contribution, along with the midfielder’s performance as a whole.

He told [Sky Sports](https://x.com/SkySportsPL/status/2054674100715483410): “The reason why, and I said before we started the show, I want him to do so well because he came through the academy. It means more.

“So to produce this from the academy. His vision, and then to execute that pass, it’s just mesmerising to me.”

Addressing Foden’s England hopes, Richards added: “And I know he’s not had the best of seasons, but in a World Cup when he needs something special, he can produce that.

“He’s not played the best for England at all. But when I see him, like the season he had a couple of seasons ago where he was player of the year, and he’s just got that magic. And I just wish he could have shown it more this season.”

## Pep Guardiola reveals why Nico Gonzalez was absent

When a player is not included in the squad, it is usually due to a previously unknown injury, which was the case with Abdukodir Khusanov last Saturday.

Despite this, Nico was actually fit to face Crystal Palace, but missed the fixture due to a decision made by Guardiola.

“Yeah he’s fine, but I have to leave a lot of players out because we are the whole squad ready, and sometimes they’re there,” the manager told [Sky Sports](https://x.com/SkySportsPL/status/2054677705103229043?s=20).

“Nico, he brings us to the Final of the FA Cup, right? With his fantastic goal \[vs Southampton\], and all season he’s played that position.

“But in the last game \[vs Brentford\], I saw Bernie \[Silva\], I liked a lot how he played there, and that’s why there I decided to do it again.”

## Josko Gvardiol surprised to start against Crystal Palace

Man City have kept themselves in the Premier League title race, and Gvardiol is very pleased to return on such an occasion.

However, the 24-year-old has admitted that more time is needed before he is able to be back at his best.

“I was surprised, I didn’t expect my name in the starting XI,” he said. “\[I found out\] like two, three hours before kick-off!

“At the end of the day, you need to be ready. I’m happy to be back, happy to be in the starting XI, and we know we’ve only got three games left, so happy to be back and get minutes.”

He added: “I’m glad to be back, feeling good actually. I wouldn’t say I’m at 100 per cent or at my best, but it’s normal – I need games, minutes, together.”
