Atletico Madrid have given up in their attempts to persuade Manchester City target Rodri to stay at the club.
According to reports in Spain, Atletico have already lined up a replacement for the departing Spaniard.
Rodri has been a shining star in the Atletico side after his €20 million transfer from Villarreal last summer. Despite only arriving at the club less than a year ago it is expected the highly-rated midfielder will move on with Manchester City his most likely destination.
City manager Pep Guardiola is believed to be a huge fan of the player and sees him as the ideal replacement for the ageing Fernandinho. The defensive midfielder would be available for a reported €70 million as per his release clause which could prove to be a steal in the modern market.
Over the last year, he has not only developed into a crucial player for Diego Simeone’s team but for the Spanish national team, it is, therefore, easy to forget Rodri is still only 22-years-old and still has room for improvement in his game, which will excite not only City fans but Guardiola himself.
His quality perhaps is summed up by his ability to break into the Spanish national team ahead of experienced midfielders like Sergio Busquets and Thiago.
Despite the chances of Rodri leaving Madrid becoming more and more likely, it is not guaranteed he is Manchester bound. With the German champions Bayern Munich one of a number of clubs registering strong interest in the player.
