After an impressive performance against Fulham, Manchester City will look to keep the advantage over Liverpool with their game in hand.
They can do so by getting three points on Wednesday against a Cardiff City side that showed against Chelsea they are not simply walkovers.
The main injury news to come out of the Fulham game is that Sergio Aguero is not fit to face the Bluebirds. Therefore, another attacking alternative will be required.
Other than the Argentine and Fabian Delph, Pep Guardiola will have his full squad to choose from.
However, at this stage of the season, there is no opportunity for rotation just to rotate. This is because every game is a cup final and, therefore, every player will deserve their place in the starting line-up.
There is a FA Cup semi-final on the horizon, so I believe some bigger names might miss out on Wednesday, but it is very difficult to call.
Here is how I predict the starting line-up will look.
Ederson is Man City’s number one and he is set to get the nod.
Danilo has been outstanding when he has played this season, and I feel if he was the only right-back left at City, he would do a fine job. But, Kyle Walker is the number one. Thus, he will be rested for the FA Cup.
CB: John Stones
It depends on whether Pep Guardiola feels John Stones can be relied upon to start an FA Cup semi-final as his return match from injury. I personally do not think he will take the risk and will rest Nicolas Otamendi for the final.
CB: Aymeric Laporte
He has been City’s best centre-back this season and arguably the best defender too. This could also be Nicolas Otamendi, as Pep looks to rest Laporte for the FA Cup instead. However, if Vincent Kompany is fit, this could also be him.
LB: Oleksandr Zinchenko
It feels far too risky to pick Benjamin Mendy because despite him being fit, he did not make the bench against Fulham, which suggests he might be training but not quite ready. Therefore, I have picked City’s current number one in this position.
CDM: Ilkay Gundogan
I think Pep Guardiola will see the FA Cup as the bigger of the two games this week. Thus, Fernandinho will be rested for it. Ilkay Gundogan has been very underrated this season, and I expect him to carry on in his good form.
CM: Bernardo Silva
Bernardo Silva will play as long as he is fit. Therefore, I expect him to keep his place, especially as he as adds an unbelievable ability to run numbers that N’Golo Kante would be proud of!
CM: David Silva
I said this earlier in the season I would love to be able to pick Phil Foden here because Kevin de Bruyne is returning from fitness and David Silva needs to be rested. However, I don’t think it will be Foden. Therefore, David Silva will continue to try and rediscover his form.
RW: Riyad Mahrez
Raheem Sterling is in fantastic form and I really cannot see Pep Guardiola dropping him. However, when there are two trips to Wembley in a week, I feel he will be preferred for both of those and three games in a week is a massive ask, so Mahrez could start here.
LW: Leroy Sane
Leroy Sane had a fantastic international break, and I was very surprised that he did not start against Fulham. However, I think that he will play in place of Raheem Sterling against Cardiff, as well as in the FA Cup on Saturday.
ST: Gabriel Jesus
Sergio Aguero is injured, so this pick is very straightforward. I think that Gabriel Jesus is clearly a very talented striker, and with a run of games, he could show just how good he is.
