# Manchester City linked with summer swoop for Bertrand

Manchester City are reportedly contemplating a summer move for Southampton defender Ryan Bertrand.

The England international was heavily linked with a move to the Etihad Stadium last summer and according to claims from the [Mirror](https://www.mirror.co.uk/sport/football/transfer-news/leicester-star-riyad-mahrez-back-12393482), the Premier League champions may revisit their interest in him.

Bertrand has been wearing the captain’s armband for Saints in recent weeks but hasn’t enjoyed a good season. He has struggled with consistency and has come in for some criticism from some of the club’s supporters.

The ex-Chelsea man has been at the club since the summer of 2014 but with relegation looming at St Mary’s Stadium, it seems he may seek a way out of Southampton.

Manchester City are keen to land a new left-back in the summer to compete with Benjamin Mendy, who has missed most of the season with a serious knee injury.

Bertrand will be hoping to impress in the 2018 World Cup, with Gareth Southgate likely to call on him as England’s starting left-back.
