# City discussing new contract with David Silva

According to an article from the [Telegraph](https://www.telegraph.co.uk/football/2017/09/05/manchester-city-will-offload-raheem-sterling-say-premier-league/), [Manchester City](https://www.mancity.com/) are in talks with David Silva about a contract extension.

The 31-year-old Spanish midfielder has just two years remaining on his current deal, but City want to extend that by another year.

Negotiations have been ongoing between City and Silva’s representatives since July and it is thought that an agreement could be reached this month. This would tie the Spaniard to the club until June 2020, after his 34th birthday. He is arguably one of the greatest players to have played for City in the club’s history.

Silva had previously talked about returning to boyhood club [UD Las Palmas](https://www.udlaspalmas.es/en) in [La Liga](https://www.laliga.es/en), but if he was to agree to a contract extension with the Citizens, it would take his tenure to 10 years with City after arriving from [Valencia](https://en.valenciacf.com/) for £26 million in 2010. He has also played a huge part in Pep Guardiola’s plans since his arrival last summer.
