Monaco 3-1 Manchester City – Match Ratings

Manchester City crashed out of the Champions League this evening at the hands of AS Monaco.

City came to the Stade Louis II simply needing to shut their counterparts out, given that they had a 5-3 aggregate lead from the thrilling encounter back at the Etihad.

Monaco looked to be right up for it from the moment the whistle blew and it wasn’t long before they hit City.

The enigmatic youngster Kylian Mbappe gave the hosts a 1-0 lead with a deft finish before versatile Brazilian midfielder Fabinho struck Monaco’s second to bring them back on level terms, meaning that they’d theoretically go through if the scores stayed the same based on the away goal rule.

However, City equalised through Leroy Sane who pounced on Raheem Sterling’s parried shot, making it 6-5 to City on aggregate.

Despite their best second-half efforts though, City fell short as Tiemoue Bakayoko fired home with a header to seal the tie, seeing Monaco progress on away goals.

Here are our match ratings for City on the day.
