Combined XI: Manchester City and Liverpool

The New Year’s Eve clash between Manchester City and Liverpool at Anfield is undoubtedly one of the biggest matches of the season to date.

Both teams will be fighting to keep pace with leaders Chelsea, who currently find themselves six points ahead at the top of the league.

With Liverpool and City lining up behind them in second and third, the big match-up on Saturday could decide who goes head-to-head with Antonio Conte’s men for the ultimate prize in May.

In recent years, both sides have been stand-out performers in attacking areas but often suffered from a lack of stability in defence, despite spending heavily to strengthen those areas in particular.

But, if the two squads were combined, who would make the first-team?

We investigate in the following slideshow, using the 4-1-4-1 formation.

Continue to find out who made the cut and who is on a long list of absentees.

matchday.
