Manchester City’s last five pre-seasons

Preparations are well underway for the 2016/17 campaign and Manchester City will face four tough pre-season friendlies before they begin their Premier League season.

Matches against Pep Guardiola’s former club Bayern Munich and cross-city rivals Manchester United have been scheduled alongside games versus two good sides in Borussia Dortmund and Arsenal respectively.

This is, by far, the most challenging pre-season schedule that City have had in a number of years. Will they be able to cope with the challenge?

Pre-season is often used to give youngsters the chance to impress, especially when there is a new manager in charge. City’s academy will be looking to show off their talents and win a place in the senior squad for the coming season.

Fielding young players can sometimes negatively impact results, and City have done it a lot in recent years. How good are the Citizens in pre-season?

Take a look back at the last five pre-seasons, dating back to 2011, in the following slideshow.
