# City fans vote against Gimenez signing

Manchester City should not pay €50m to sign Atletico Madrid centre-back Jose Gimenez this summer, according to the club’s supporters.

54% of Sky Blues fans that voted on a [poll](https://readmancity.com/2016/06/20/city-identify-new-centre-back-target/) which ran on Read Man City on Monday believe that the Uruguayan’s €50m is too much and the money should be reinvested into other transfer targets.

Gimenez has been linked with a move to the Etihad after the Citizens failed to secure a deal for Athletic Bilbao’s Aymeric Laporte, who signed a new four-year deal with the Spanish outfit.

Pep Guardiola is looking to revamp the City squad ahead of his first season with the club, and the defence has been made a priority. John Stones amongst others have been linked to the club.

Meanwhile, 46% of the City fans that took part in the poll believe that Gimenez’s potential is worth splashing out almost £40m on and the club should further their interest in the 21-year-old.
