Manchester City have first refusal of French defender

According to the Daily Mail, Manchester City are the frontrunners for the signature of Athletic Bilbao defender Aymeric Laporte if he decides to leave the La Liga side.

The Frenchman has been offered a new deal by Bilbao, but an offer from Pep Guardiola’s Manchester City may be hard to refuse for the highly-talented defender, should it come his way.

The offer from the La Liga outfit has been on the table for Laporte for a number of months, but he has taken time to weigh up his options before agreeing to anything. The defender also has only just finished the domestic season and has the EURO’s to think about.

A number of clubs have reportedly shown an interest in the young central defender, but it seems as though if he decides to go anywhere, Manchester City is his preferred choice.

Laporte isn’t the only target for Manchester City, with Ilkay Gundogan from Borussia Dortmund heavily linked with a move to the Etihad Stadium, so too has John Stones from Everton, who was subject of interest from Chelsea last season – with Manchester United joining the race for the Englishman’s signature too.
