Player Ratings: Everton 2-1 Manchester City

On the way back from Everton after what has become a fairly standard Manchester City away performance.

Poor passing, lazy defending and lack of effort were, as usual, on show for all to see. Having gone 1-0 down Touré and co realised they had a football game to win and grew into it slightly more. On the counter-attack, City bit back and Aguero played in Navas, who slotted home uncharacteristically to end a 66-game goal drought.

Yet, almost inevitably, barely a minute after scoring, Romelu Lukaku headed home having got in between the two City centre-backs. This tie is two-legged though and Everton will need to be aware of the fact Pellegrini’s men scored what could be an important away goal if the second leg is 1- 0 in City’s favour and goes to extra time. The Citizens are also a much better outfit domestically than away from home.
