Manchester City couldn’t repeat their late heroics at Watford and slipped to a 2-1 defeat at the hands of Everton in the Capital One Cup semi-final first leg.
Funes Mori opened the scoring for the home side in stoppage time in the first half, before Jesus Navas levelled after a flowing counter attack from City.
It was a remarkably different performance from the City side that comfortably beat Everton 2-0 in the league earlier in the season and City were undone again moments after that Navas equaliser. A limping Lukaku got the better of Demichelis to nod home.
City had a strong shout for a penalty earlier in the game when Navas went down under Mirallas’ challenge.
All is still to play for in the second leg, but it was a disappointing performance from City.
