According to reports, Portuguese super-agent Jorge Mendes could play a crucial role in any potential transfer.

Mendes has been behind a number of high-profile deals in recent times and was involved in Manchester City signing Eliaquim Mangala and Nicolas Otamendi over a two-year period.

He represents Guedes and City may well be hoping that their previous dealings with Mendes may get them a discounted price on the player – who has a staggering €60m release clause.

The last man to move from Benfica to City was Spanish midfielder, Javi Garcia, who won a Premier League title under Manuel Pellegrini in the 2013/14 campaign.

The Blues have also [been linked with a move for another Benfica starlet](https://readmancity.com/2015/10/04/city-front-runners-benficas-victor-andrade/) – 21-year old winger Victor Andrade who is the godson of former City man Robinho.
