Manchester City playmaker David Silva limped off just 11 minutes into a 4-0 victory over Luxembourg, where Spain guaranteed their place at next summer’s European Championships.
Shortly after the conclusion of the match, Spanish media reported that Silva would miss up to three weeks of football, leaving the distinct possibility that the City fans favourite will miss the crucial Manchester derby at the end of the month. The derby could have a massive impact on the race to claim the Premier League title and, with the match day fast approaching, Silva would be a huge loss for the two-time Premier League winners.
The 29-year-old has been heavily praised for his performances so far this season and was instrumental in the Citizens undeniably solid start to the season, before league losses against West Ham and Tottenham tainted the Blues’ confidence.
Pellegrini is unlikely to change the so far successful 4-2-3-1 formation and, with the absence of star striker Sergio Aguero alongside Silva, Jesus Navas, Kevin De Bruyne, Raheem Sterling and Wilfried Bony are the players expected to act as City’s ‘front four’.
Silva will definitely sit out of Spain’s final qualifying match in Kiev on Monday and will be a spectator for recently-promoted Bournemouth’s visit of the Etihad but, the huge question that surrounds Manchester City fans is, will he be fully-fit for the Manchester derby?
