# City vs Juventus: Combined XI

Heavyweight clashes like this often lead to fans and pundits pondering the question: who from said team would get into other said team? This European clash is no different and I will be looking at what players from each team would earn a place in the combined XI.

GK: Joe Hart

Although Buffon has more experience and more honours in European competitions, the Italian is closing in on the end of his playing career and Hart more than recovered from the period of bad form that he suffered in 2012/13. England’s number one has developed into, in my opinion, a contender for the world’s best goalkeeper. Five clean sheets from five Premier League matches this season hasn’t just been down to City’s defence – Hart has made some crucial saves and wins his place between the sticks in this team.

RB: Pablo Zabaleta

Despite not appearing for City yet this season due to injury and a lacklustre last 12 months, Zabaleta is a constant attacking threat and is persistent in what he tries to do. The Argentine has been first-choice at the Etihad practically since his arrival in 2008 and has never looked like losing that status. The closest contender in this position for either team has to be Sagna, but Zabaleta still wins by a landslide.

CB: Vincent Kompany

Here’s to you, Vincent Kompany, City loves you more than you will know wooaahhh. The City skipper has come into the new season a changed man and looks determined to captain his side to whatever trophy that is available. He’s put his poor form behind him and, on this season’s performances, is one of the best defender’s in Europe.

CB: Nicolas Otamendi

Some of you may be thinking that this has turned into a biased article but you’re wrong. And yes, I know, I know, Otamendi hasn’t played for City yet and stuff but he was the best central defender in La Liga last season and, if he were to continue in that feat, he and Kompany would form a formidable defensive partnership – potentially the best in the world at the moment.

LB: Alex Sandro

Sandro was a reported target for Manuel Pellegrini after last season’s limp defence of their Premier League crown but now plays for Serie A champions Juventus. Although Kolarov has been in electrifying form this term, the Serbian full-back has off-days far too often to be selected. Sandro also has youth on his side and would compliment any team in the world – he was a fantastic buy for Juve.

CDM: Yaya Toure

Ignoring last season’s defensive hiatus, Yaya Toure wins a place in any team in my books. If Toure is in the right frame of mind, he can decide the outcome of the game. The power that he possess’ and the precision of some of his shots is out of this world. A reformed character this season is Yaya. City fans have been praying for the last year that he would return to the player that they could rely on and that Toure is returning at an unstoppable pace.

CDM: Paul Pogba

Another City summer target. Well, excessively reported anyway. The Frenchman is ‘the new Yaya Toure’ according to the games’ experts. Although, from my observations, this lad can defend. Pogba is the whole package and was the biggest mistake of Sir Alex Ferguson’s career. Releasing such a talent not only made it harder for Pogba to make it to the pinnacle of world football, but he took on the challenge and is now one of the most in-demand players in history.

RAM: Kevin De Bruyne

Kevin De Bruyne. What a talent. Considering his contribution to Wolfsburg’s season, KDB’s transfer fee was justified. Although, other teams’ fans feel differently – that’s the jealousy kicking in. The Belgian playmaker had trained with City for just three days before making his bow for the club and putting in an impressive performance, some say it was worth the man of the match award. I know that this isn’t his primary position, but we all know who’ll be taking the CAM role.

CAM: David Silva

![Alex Livesey/Getty Images Sport](https://media.readmancity.com/readmancity/2015/09/486487406.jpg)

And it’s Hi Ho Silva’s lightning, every time he plays it’s frightening. Pictured above is the world’s best number 10. No arguments about it, David Silva is a class above any other contender. Since arriving at City, Silva has contributed at least 10 assists every season. That’s some feat for a player who has only been recognised as one of the world’s bests in the last couple of years. There’s no denying that the arrival of Raheem Sterling has improved his quality this summer, but the fact that he was also performing well whilst City were struggling last season says it all. He is City’s Mr Dependable.

LAM: Raheem Sterling

I was considering giving this position to someone like Cuadrado or Hernanes but, if I did that, it would literally just be for the sake of including another Juventus and for the sake of other people’s opinions. Sterling, though scarily still only 19, has already proved to be a crucial part of City’s team within five matches. There aren’t many players who can say that they have fitted in as well as this lad has within such a short period of time.

ST: Sergio Aguero

![Julian Finney/Getty Images Sport](https://media.readmancity.com/readmancity/2015/09/487871974.jpg)

Pictured above is the sight that all City fans dread. Aguero career has been plagued by injuries, yet he is still seen as the best striker in the Premier League. That’s no coincidence. Yes, he suffers from a persistent knee injury that can rule him out for months at a time but as soon as he returns to the squad, it’s like he has never been injured. He’s straight back into the goals and his clinical finishing is quite a big chunk of the reason that City have been champions twice…that and the unforgettable Balotelli….AGUEROOOOOOOO moment.
