Haaland’s latest Man City landmark almost went unnoticed in Coventry win

There was plenty of focus on the new faces at the Etihad on Saturday, but Erling Haaland quietly helped himself to another remarkable landmark.

Enzo Fernández and Iliman Ndiaye both made their debuts as City edged Coventry 1-0 to maintain their perfect start to the Premier League season.

But it was the familiar figure of Haaland who ultimately separated the sides.

Haaland hits 300

The Norwegian powered home Antoine Semenyo’s cross after 26 minutes, with Fernández releasing the winger in the build-up.

It was Haaland’s 300th goal in all competitions in his top-flight club career, a landmark he has reached in just 368 appearances.

And there was another impressive number attached to the goal.

It was Haaland’s 20th headed Premier League goal, more than any other player in the competition since he arrived at City in the summer of 2022.

The 26-year-old has now scored three Premier League goals this season and once again provided the difference when City needed him.

There was something fitting about it.

City spent heavily rebuilding Enzo Maresca’s squad during the summer and two Deadline Day arrivals were making their debuts on Saturday.

Yet on an afternoon when Coventry made life awkward, it was Haaland who provided the decisive moment.

New era. New manager. Plenty of new faces.

Same old Haaland.
