Enzo Fernández to Man City ‘here we go’ as £125m-plus deal agreed

City have reportedly agreed a deal worth more than £125m to sign Enzo Fernández from Chelsea, with the Argentina international now set to undergo his medical.

Fabrizio Romano has given the transfer his customary “here we go”, reporting that Chelsea have approved the sale following lengthy negotiations with City.

Fernández is understood to have made City his preferred destination and is now expected to undergo a medical ahead of completing one of the biggest transfers of the summer.

It brings a dramatic Deadline Day pursuit to the brink of completion.

Chelsea approve Fernández sale

City had submitted an official offer worth more than £120m earlier on Tuesday, but there were conflicting reports over Chelsea’s response.

TalkSPORT reported that the initial proposal had been rejected, while other sources maintained that negotiations were continuing.

The Times subsequently reported that the outline of a deal worth around £120m including add-ons had been agreed, with Chelsea attempting to strengthen their midfield before allowing Fernández to leave.

There now appears to have been the decisive breakthrough.

Romano reports that the final agreement is worth more than £125m and that Chelsea have approved Fernández’s departure.

The 25-year-old joined Chelsea from Benfica for £107m in January 2023 after helping Argentina win the World Cup in Qatar.

He is now on the verge of becoming City’s latest major addition in a remarkable summer rebuild under Enzo Maresca.

The transfer will also surpass the £116m paid to Nottingham Forest for Elliot Anderson earlier this summer, making Fernández City’s new record signing if the move is completed as expected.

The deal is agreed.

Now comes the medical and the final formalities before City can officially announce Fernández as their player.
