Elliot Anderson reveals how his role has changed at Man City

Elliot Anderson has revealed how Enzo Maresca is asking him to play a more structured role following his summer move to City.

The England international produced another encouraging performance as City beat Crystal Palace 4-1 at Selhurst Park on Friday night.

Anderson admitted afterwards that he is still learning exactly what Maresca wants from him.

Anderson adapting to Maresca demands

“I’m loving it,” Anderson told City’s official website. “It’s a little bit different, so I’m trying to grasp the little differences so I can settle in well.”

Asked about the change from his role at Nottingham Forest, Anderson was clear.

“I’ve got to be a little more structured,” he said. “That’s what I’m learning. It is what it is. Trying to learn on the job.”

Speaking to Sky Sports, the 23-year-old explained that means staying in position more than he did at Forest, where he was afforded greater freedom.

There are already signs that Anderson is becoming more comfortable.

He admitted his first outing at the Etihad had brought some nerves but said he “felt more at home” against Palace.

Erling Haaland was certainly impressed, describing Anderson as “incredible” after City’s victory.

Anderson also believes there is plenty to look forward to as Maresca begins shaping his new-look side.

“Eras come to an end, and a new one is starting,” he said. “The last game the average age was 25 so it’s a young squad and it is exciting.”

Anderson is still learning his role in Maresca’s City.

So far, the adjustment appears to be going well.
