Alexis Mac Allister offered to Man City as Enzo Fernández alternative

City have reportedly been offered the chance to consider a move for Liverpool midfielder Alexis Mac Allister as they continue their pursuit of Enzo Fernández.

Mac Allister has been linked with City previously this summer, but Fabrizio Romano has now provided more detail on how the latest development has come about.

Romano says intermediaries have approached City with the possibility of considering a move for the Argentina international.

There has been no official bid, and Romano stressed that Fernández remains City’s priority.

Mac Allister option put to City

City’s interest in Mac Allister is not new.

TalkSPORT reported earlier this month that the 27-year-old had been discussed internally as City considered their midfield options, although there had been no contact with Liverpool at that stage.

Mac Allister’s father and agent, Carlos, subsequently said his son would remain at Anfield.

The latest development does not necessarily change that position.

Rather than City approaching Liverpool with an offer, Romano’s information suggests intermediaries have put Mac Allister forward as an alternative should a deal for Fernández prove too difficult.

City are still considering a bid for the Chelsea midfielder, who is valued at around £120m.

Mac Allister would present problems of his own. Liverpool would have little reason to lose an established midfielder to a Premier League rival so close to the deadline, while there has been no indication that they are prepared to sell.

For now, Fernández remains the main target.

But with only a few days of the window remaining, Mac Allister is another option that has been put in front of City as they decide whether another major midfield deal can be done.
