Sunderland have submitted a formal loan offer to Man City for Jack Grealish, aiming to bring the England international to the North East before the transfer window closes.
Sunderland launch ambitious loan approach for Grealish
The Black Cats’ proposal is based on taking the 30-year-old on a season-long deal with an option to make the deal permanent at the end of the season. This ambitious proposal comes as Sunderland also actively pursue Marseille winger Igor Paixao to reinforce their attacking options.
Contract details and wage split proposal
Under the deal proposed by Sunderland, City would still be required to pay a portion of the player’s wages. With the winger entering the final year of his contract at the Etihad, the proposed structure allows Sunderland to secure Grealish on a permanent basis when his existing deal expires.
Grealish’s reduced role in Maresca’s squad
Having spent last season on loan at Everton—where a fractured foot cut his campaign short after 22 appearances—Grealish returned to Manchester this summer after undertaking his rehab at Everton.
However, his involvement under manager Enzo Maresca has so far been restricted to second-half substitute appearances in the Community Shield and the 2-1 Premier League victory over Bournemouth.
Transfer deadline outlook for City’s wide options
Etihad chiefs previously indicated an openness to sanctioning a departure for the winger either permanently or on loan, but as the deadline approaches, the latest at Man City suggests that Maresca must decide whether to trim his wide options or retain Grealish as experienced depth across a demanding season.
