Man City youngster returns to former club in season-long loan

City youngster Divine Mukasa has joined West Ham United on loan for the 2026/27 season.

The 18-year-old returns to the club where he spent much of his youth career before moving to City in September 2023.

City confirmed the move on Friday, with Mukasa set to spend the season with the Championship club.

The deal does not include an option to buy, according to reports, meaning Mukasa is expected back at the Etihad next summer.

Mukasa returns to former club West Ham

Mukasa joined West Ham’s academy at the age of five and progressed through the ranks before leaving for Manchester.

He has since made his senior debut for City and spent the second half of last season on loan at Leicester City.

The attacking midfielder made 15 appearances during his spell with the Foxes, scoring twice and providing three assists.

Mukasa also signed a new City contract earlier this summer, which runs until 2030.

His move to West Ham therefore looks to be about playing time rather than City’s willingness to move him on permanently.

It also takes Mukasa back to familiar surroundings three years after leaving the Hammers.

With regular first-team opportunities at the Etihad likely to be limited this season, the loan gives him another chance to gain senior experience before returning to City next summer.
