City are already preparing for the possibility of Savinho leaving the club this summer, with a search for a new winger understood to be underway.
That is the latest indication that the Brazil international’s future at the Etihad remains uncertain, with Tottenham continuing to be linked with a move.
According to City Source, City will pursue a new winger if Savinho leaves, although there is no concrete replacement target at this stage.
The club did, however, look at a number of alternative wingers earlier in the summer.
One of those was Wolves youngster Mateus Mané. The Portugal youth international is understood to have been among the players City considered, rather than someone they have now decided to pursue.
That distinction is worth making because the picture could change considerably depending on what happens with Savinho.
City have already spent much of the summer reshaping their squad under Enzo Maresca, and another attacking departure would naturally create another vacancy to fill.
Savinho’s pace, direct running and ability to play on either flank would not be easy to replace, either.
The search is ongoing…
For that reason, City are understandably doing some groundwork now rather than waiting until a potential deal with Tottenham is completed before beginning their search.
There is still a long way to go, though.
The thing worth noting is that City appear to have accepted the possibility that they may need to recruit another winger before the window closes.
If Savinho stays, the situation changes again.
If he goes, expect City to move.
And with the search already underway, it may not be long before a more concrete name emerges.
