City have agreed a deal to sell Tijjani Reijnders to Saudi Pro League side Al-Qadsiah for around £52m, according to reports.
The development represents a significant step forward from the situation reported by Read Man City on Thursday, when Al-Qadsiah were in advanced talks with City over a move for the Netherlands international.
An agreement had not yet been reached at that stage. That has now changed, with ESPN reporting that City have agreed a deal worth around £52m for the midfielder.
Reijnders joined City from AC Milan last summer and is now set to leave after just one season at the Etihad Stadium.
The 28-year-old made 50 appearances during his debut campaign, scoring seven goals and providing eight assists, but his importance to the team reduced during the second half of the season.
The sale is also significant in the context of City’s wider midfield reshuffle.
City have already brought in Elliot Anderson for a club-record fee and remain interested in Lille midfielder Ayyoub Bouaddi, while uncertainty continues around Rodri amid interest from Barcelona.
There is also a major decision to be made over Chelsea midfielder Enzo Fernández, with Chelsea reportedly setting City a 5pm Friday deadline to make a bid matching their £120m valuation.
For now, though, the immediate development is Reijnders.
What was advanced dialogue on Thursday has become an agreed deal less than 24 hours later, with the Dutchman now set to continue his career in Saudi Arabia.
City are understood to have paid around £46m to sign Reijnders from Milan last summer, meaning the reported £52m agreement represents a fee above their initial outlay.
