Rodri has told those close to him he is willing to discuss contract terms with Barcelona, according to Spanish outlets Jijantes and Nil Solà, in what would mark the first time he has shown openness to a move there.
The report, relayed by Fabrizio Romano, comes as Barcelona continue to explore a deal for the Spain captain.
The Athletic and TEAMtalk have both separately reported that Barcelona have made contact with Rodri’s representatives, driven in part by Frenkie de Jong’s knee injury ruling him out for around five months.
Barcelona are said to be treating the move carefully while Real Madrid’s interest remains live, and are waiting on a final decision from the player before going further.
It marks a shift from earlier reporting. Yahoo Sports said this week that Rodri had made clear to all suitors, Barcelona included, that Real Madrid was his only preference this summer.
Real Madrid have already agreed personal terms and offered City close to £60m, but City are understood to have paused those talks while they wait to see whether Barcelona’s interest turns into a formal move.
Rodri is working back from minor back surgery and is expected to return to full training with City in the coming days, with the World Cup winner short of a definitive answer on his future in either direction.
Nothing has been agreed with any club.
