City are set to receive a significant financial boost after James Trafford completed a medical ahead of his proposed move to Leeds United.
According to the Manchester Evening News‘ Beren Cross, Leeds have agreed a deal worth £40 million plus add-ons for the goalkeeper, with the transfer now nearing completion.
Trafford left City in 2023 in search of regular first-team football and continued his development away from the Etihad at Burnley. His impending move to Elland Road represents another major step in his career, while also underlining the value City have continued to generate from academy graduates.
The 23-year-old’s game time at City was limited the minute the club signed Gianluigi Donnarumma, but he was highly regarded throughout his time in the club’s academy and was part of the England Under-21 side that won the European Championship in 2023 without conceding a goal.
For City, the deal would represent another substantial return on a homegrown player, continuing a trend that has seen the club generate significant transfer income through academy development in recent years.
Although Trafford’s future has ultimately taken him away from Manchester, his progress remains one closely followed by City supporters. A move to the Premier League with Leeds would offer him another opportunity to establish himself at the highest level.
An official announcement is now expected once the remaining formalities have been completed.
