Leeds United’s move for City goalkeeper James Trafford is expected to be confirmed within days, with the final pieces of the puzzle now falling into place.
The £40m deal, which has already been agreed in principle, has stalled on Leeds’ side while the club works to move on current number one Lucas Perri.
According to Italian outlet Calciomercato, Perri is due to have a medical at Torino, clearing the path for Leeds to formally announce Trafford’s arrival.
Leeds boss Daniel Farke has been reluctant to let Perri leave before Trafford’s move is signed off, with back-up Alex Cairns his only senior option in goal until then.
Trafford himself has offered a hint that his switch is close. He was among the first to like Dominic Calvert-Lewin’s Instagram post after the striker scored twice in Leeds’ 4-2 pre-season win over Liverpool — the kind of engagement players typically avoid with a future club until a deal is done.
Once completed, the move will make James Trafford British football’s most expensive goalkeeper for a second time, having already broken the record when he joined City from Burnley last summer.
