City’s touring party lands in Hong Kong for Maresca’s first away test

City have arrived in Hong Kong ahead of Enzo Maresca’s first pre-season tour as head coach, with the squad touching down after departing Manchester on Tuesday.

Maresca named a 28-man travelling party, headlined by Phil Foden, Josko Gvardiol and Tijjani Reijnders. Several first-team regulars are absent, with players who went deep into the World Cup — including those who reached the last-16 and beyond — given extended rest before rejoining the group later in pre-season.

City open the tour against Inter Milan at Kai Tak Stadium on Saturday, kicking off at 12:30pm UK time in a repeat of the 2023 Champions League final. The trip continues with games against a K League All-Stars side and Atlético Madrid in Seoul.

It’s a rare early away assignment for Maresca, who only took charge of his first session at the City Football Academy on 20 July.

With several senior figures still to return, the tour doubles as a chance to work with a squad blending fringe first-teamers and academy prospects before the group reaches full strength for the Premier League opener.
