Manchester City succumbed to a 3-0 defeat away at Liverpool in the first leg of their Champions League quarter-final tie.
It was an unusually poor display from City as they failed to break down the Reds, who will take a huge advantage into the second leg at the Etihad Stadium.
Mohamed Salah scored Liverpool’s first of the evening early on after some defensive mishaps, before Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain unleashed a long-range shot past Ederson.
Sadio Mane then added insult to injury soon after with a header, and that was enough to help Liverpool to a historic 3-0 win over a hapless City side.
The Citizens are down but not out, however, they do have a mountain to climb. Here are our player ratings.
Ederson - 5
Was given little help by his defence on the day as he conceded three.
Kyle Walker - 3
Had a really poor game. Calamitous defending for the first and poor positonally throughout.
Vincent Kompany - 4
Made some strong challenges but was not his usually imperious self.
Nicolas Otamendi - 2
Otamendi was all over the place. He was out of position often and gave the ball away a lot. Woeful display.
Aymeric Laporte - 3
Seriously struggled at left-back. He looked uncomfortable and couldn’t contain Mohamed Salah’s direct style.
Fernandinho - 6
One of few respectable performers. He tried to compete in the middle but was ultimately overran.
Ilkay Gundogan - 3
Was uncomfortable when played in a wider role and looked second best all evening.
David Silva - 3
Silva didn’t step up on the night and was generally anonymous.
Kevin De Bruyne - 3
Saw none of the ball and, like Silva, was anonymous.
Leroy Sane - 5
Probed the Liverpool defence but his end product was ultimately lacking.
Gabriel Jesus - 3
Barely even had a sniff. His frustration was summed up by his late, petulant yellow card.
