According to the Daily Mail, David Silva has been absent for the past few games due to the premature birth of his child.

The Manchester City star hasn’t been featured in the squad and the ongoing medical treatment for his son Mateo has been the reason for his absence. His baby son is fighting for his life which meant that the Spaniard missed the games against Newcastle United and Crystal Palace to spend time with his family.

The midfielder returned to the City side when they faced Watford at the Etihad Stadium on Tuesday night. Pep Guardiola revealed to the public that he was experiencing personal problems. He has also given him the chance to take time off again if he wants to be with his family.

Silva thanked the fans for their appreciation and the manager for his understanding in an Instagram post.

Silva captained the side against Watford on Tuesday night and shone on his return running the midfield for Pep Guardiola’s side. However, the manager admits it is now likely that he will return to Spain to see his wife and child, something that he understands completely.

Family is most important. You can see how essential David is to us but I don’t know how long he will be here.

He is free to go home again if he needs to. It doesn’t matter if we get no points while he is away. Family is most important.
