Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola explicitly stated that he would look at the options from the academy before delving into the transfer market in search of additions to his side next summer.

Since arriving in the summer, Guardiola has surprised fans by giving more opportunities to youth players than they were accustomed to. The likes of Tosin Adarabioyo, Pablo Maffeo and Angelino have all been given the chance to showcase their talents this season, and the Spaniard refuses to give up on his quest to bring talent through the City academy.

When speaking to the press before Saturday’s game against Leicester, Guardiola reassured that the progress of the academy products would not be hindered by him needlessly entering the transfer market to strengthen his squad.

Before you take a decision to buy a player, we’re going to look at what’s in the second team. All the academy needs to know at the moment is that the trainer will trust a lot in the academy.

Guardiola also praised the efforts of the youth teams at Manchester City, who have been successfully decorated since the new state of the art academy was built.

Of course, it depends on their quality but we can’t forget that in the last year how good the academy work here is in this club. Most of the competitions – under -13,14,15,16,17 – win the titles and there is a lot of quality.
