Pep Guardiola claims he hasn’t watched Manchester United yet
Manchester City boss Pep Guardiola says he is yet to watch Manchester United ahead of the Manchester derby showdown in two week’s time.
Guardiola, commonly known as an obsessive coach who pays great attention to the opposition, says he hasn’t had the chance to study Jose Mourinho’s United before the two teams meet at Old Trafford on September 10.
Speaking to reporters following City’s 3-1 win over West Ham, he said:
Still I didn’t see Manchester United playing, so now I have 10 days to see United, Borussia Monchehgladbach and other teams. We have to make an amazing performance to win at Old Trafford. I can imagine the atmosphere. I am looking forward to living that experience.
One would not expect Guardiola to have not analysed upcoming opponents, but the former Bayern and Barcelona manager has had his hands full with rebuilding the City side and implementing his philosophy.
The first Manchester derby of the season comes after an international break, which doesn’t always bode well for clubs – City have seen plenty of their key players suffer injuries whilst playing for their national teams.
Guardiola hopes that the City players will return unscathed.
As quoted by ESPN, he said:
Hopefully, they [City’s players] come back with no injuries and in a good mood and we can do it.
