2016/17 – the start of the Pep Guardiola revolution.
Two disappointing seasons under Manuel Pellegrini resulted in the Chilean being replaced by a man who can only be described as the best manager in the world.
Guardiola plans a summer overhaul at City to mould the squad into his own, with midfielder Ilkay Gundogan already arriving at the Etihad.
Other players such as Toni Kroos, Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang and John Stones have also been linked with moves to the blue half of Manchester, as Guardiola looks to begin a period of dominance in England.
As a result of the summer overhaul, the number of new players that will be brought in is unknown. Fans and experts have been left guessing as to who will stay and who will go so nobody quite knows which team will be starting in the opening day Premier League fixture against Sunderland.
But here’s how we think that City could line-up next season..
GK - Joe Hart
The City shotstopper looks set to retain his place as the number one goalkeeper despite speculation that Guardiola is searching for someone who is more comfortable on the ball.
RB - Hector Bellerin
Arsenal’s young full-back has reportedly been monitored by Guardiola in recent months. It is looking increasingly likely that Pablo Zabaleta will leave the club, so a replacement will be required.
That replacement could be Bellerin.
CB - Vincent Kompany
Although Kompany has endured a couple of seasons of continuous injury problems, he still possesses the quality to be in City’s team.
The skipper will look to get his career back on track under Guardiola and prove his fitness to critic
CB - Nicolas Otamendi
Guardiola appears to be intent on signing at least one new centre-back, but I think that Otamendi will retain his place in the starting XI.
Stones and Gimenez are the two reported targets, both of whom would be carefully worked into the team as they improved, rather than being immediately thrown in.
LB - Danny Rose
A new left-back is what City fans have wanted for the past few years, and this could be the transfer window where they finally get one.
Rose’s form at Tottenham in 2015/16 did not go unnoticed and there were reports linking the Englishman to the Etihad, with Guardiola looking to add to the number of homegrown players in his squad.
CDM - Fernandinho
There is no doubt the 31-year-old will remain at the forefront of the City team.
His hard-working nature fits perfectly with Guardiola’s style of play.
CDM - Ilkay Gundogan
City’s newest signing, Gundogan, looks set to be Yaya Toure’s replacement.
The Ivorian is set to leave the club after six years, and Gundogan can fill his shoes nicely with more balance in his play.
RM - Kevin De Bruyne
Probably the safest bet to be in City’s team next season.
The Belgian set the Premier League alight in his debut season and will be one of Guardiola’s most important players.
CAM - David Silva
This is the one that I am most unsure on.
While Silva has the potential to change the match with one touch, he does not do the closing down and continuous running required to be in a Guardiola team.
LM - Nolito
Reports on Monday suggested that a deal for Nolito is close so, by the that you are reading this, that may have been confirmed.
Nolito will replace Sterling in the line-up, who will become an impact substitute, after impressive performances at Euro 2016.
ST - Sergio Aguero
Of course, he’s still in the team.
The move for Aubameyang seems to have slowed, so Aguero will be without a strike partner.
However, Aguero has been seen to be successful operating as a sole striker for the past two years.
