Pep Guardiola keen on Arsenal forward
Incoming Manchester City boss Pep Guardiola is believed to be keen on bringing Arsenal forward Theo Walcott to the club in the summer, according to the London Evening Standard.
The Spaniard is said to be an advocate for Walcott’s talents and he has reportedly informed City chiefs to monitor the 27-year old’s situation.
Walcott has been with the Gunners since 2006 when he arrived at the club as a 16-year old having been with Southampton’s youth side. He is settled at Arsenal but his appearances this team has been sporadic and he is no longer seen as a regular in the side.
The England winger’s last start for Arsenal in the league came in February and he is understood to be frustrated at the lack of game-time. Walcott did sign a new contract last summer – keeping him at the club until 2019.
But with players overtaking him in the pecking order in the England fold, he could look for a move away and City could pounce. The Blues would have no problem matching Walcott’s current £140,000 wage and they are in need of homegrown players.
Liverpool are another team who could make an enquiry should Arsenal listen to any offers.
