Which centre-back should City have in next season’s squad?
Manchester City have had their fair share of defensive problems this season. Captain Vincent Kompany has been hit by a string of calf injuries this season and City have struggled in his absence.
Martin Demichelis and Eliaquim Mangala have failed to impress while new signing Nicolas Otamendi has been inconsistent at best when not paired with Kompany.
And with Pep Guardiola coming in the summer, everything points towards Manchester City bringing in a new central defender.
But who would be the best option?
All you have to do is go through the duels, selecting your ‘winner’ from each match up. That winner continues into the next duel, to be pitted against a centre-back. If he’s still your winner, select again. If not, choose the other person in the duel. It’s as easy as that!

Marquinhos
The 21-year old is one of the most talented defensive prospects around and can also play at right-back.
Jason Denayer
Many City fans expected Jason Denayer to get his chance this season. However the Galatasaray loanee does look set to be a part of next season’s squad.
Mats Hummels
German and Dortmund defender who would appear to fit Pep’s profile of a central defender . Though he does have quite the connection with BVB and it could be difficult to prize him away.
John Stones
City have been heavily linked with the Everton and England man, who seemed destined to sign for Chelsea in the summer. He appears to be the perfect Guardiola defender.
Leonardo Bonucci
Another gritty defender who has been a key figure in the Juventus backline for a number of years. He’s also one of Pep’s favourite players.
Aymeric Laporte
A strong, commanding defender, Laporte has also been a rumoured summer target for Guardiola and City. The Frenchman has a £39.2m release clause.
