Following in the footsteps of Ferran Soriano and Txiki Begiristain, former Barcelona director Xevi Merce has joined Manchester City.
With the highly-anticipated summer arrival of Pep Guardiola looming large at the Etihad Stadium, it is clear that the owners of the Sky Blues are attempting to recreate the structure that Barcelona had during Guardiola’s reign.
First luring Soriano and Begiristain, both of whom were integral in the long-term plan to bring the Bayern Munich boss to the Sportscity complex, the City hierarchy have now given Merce a job after his five-month sabbatical. Although, his exact responsibilities remain unknown.
During his time at the Nou Camp, Merce was a director of the Catalan giants. Sport understands that he will take up a similar position in Manchester and will begin his work at the same time that Guardiola takes over the reigns of the Citizens.
The addition of Merce makes it four ex-Barcelona men that have joined the ranks at City, with more expected to join in the summer.
