Manchester City got back to winning ways in Kiev with an efficient performance culminating in a 3-1 win for the Blues.
Pellegrini’s decision to play an inexperienced side in the FA Cup at Chelsea paid off here as City looked fresh and hungry – delivering a Champions League performance rivalling the same result achieved in Sevilla at the Group stage.
City got their job done and are in a great position to reach the quarter finals; a feat they have to yet achieve.
Here are our player ratings.
Joe Hart - 6.5
Had little do to but was adequate between the sticks when called upon. Distribution was a bit dodgy at times but held his own. Was unlucky to concede the goal as it took a deflection. Great save to deny Buyalsky getting a brace with a low stop to his right.
Bacary Sagna - 7
Was far better going forward and put some good balls into the box as well as linking up decently with the likes of Silva and Fernandinho.
Vincent Kompany - 7.5
Really good opening half hour. Won lots of tackles well and brings that aura of stability and leadership to the side. Kept it watertight throughout.
Nicolas Otamendi - 7
Also had a good first half, timed his tackles brilliantly this time out and won a lot in the air. Poor defensive header straight into Buyalsky for Dynamo’s goal although it was a shame it took a nick off him for the goal. On the whole a good showing.
Gael Clichy - 6.5
Stuck to the task well and didn’t stop patrolling his line. Put a couple of passes astray and wasn’t as good as recent showings but still impressed.
Fernando - 6.5
Was caught in possession at times but tackled valiantly and kept play moving well. Screened it in front of the back-four nicely and allowed Yaya to venture forward with not too much worry.
Fernandinho - 7
Found himself out wide right and still managed to put an excellent shift in. Drove City forward at times, interplay with all of the offensive players was very good. Lay off for Yaya’s goal was deft and perfectly weighted.
Raheem Sterling - 7
Perfect ball in for Silva’s goal and attacked with energy and dynamism. Set up Touré excellently only for the Ivorian to head wide. Easily one of the Blues’ best performers in the champions league so far this season. Defended superbly too and helped his full back out constantly.
Yaya Toure - 7
Good knockdown for City’s first and kept play moving nicely. Missed a sitter with a header but made amends with a brutish drive through the Kiev defence before curling home wonderfully. Overall a good showing from the midfielder.
David Silva - 6.5
Much brighter showing from the Spaniard, good movement to get into his position at the far post for City’s second. Through balls weren’t as successful as usual.
Sergio Aguero - 7
Got his customary goal and took it well. Another big goal from the Argentine. Had a couple of chances after which he could’ve done better with but you couldn’t fault his attempts, which only narrowly missed.
