Busquets: Pep could persuade me
Barcelona midfielder Sergio Busquets has revealed that he would be ‘honoured’ to play under Pep Guardiola again.
The 27-year-old was first brought into the Barcelona senior squad by Pep Guardiola and is keen for a reunion with the Spanish coach. He mentioned when speaking to ESPN Deportes that, other than his wife, Guardiola is the only person who could persuade him to leave his home country.
I have always said there are just two persons who could make me change my decision to stay at Barcelona. One of those two persons is my wife. And she is happy here right now, so I don’t think there will be any issues on a personal level. On a sporting level, that other person is Guardiola. It’s clear that I owe Pep a lot and I would be honoured to work with him again.
Current Bayern Munich manager Guardiola confirmed last week that he would replace Manuel Pellegrini at Manchester City in the summer and has previously expressed his desire to sign midfielders.
However, Busquets remains adamant that his priorities are with the Catalan giants and he aims to be written into the history books at the club when he retires.
I hope that when I end my career, I go down in history as a great team player, who won titles and excelled. I want to become one of the players with the most games for Barcelona.
With Yaya Toure set to depart the club as per his agent Dimitri Seluk, could Busquets replace the Ivorian in midfield and finally stabilise the Sky Blues’ core?
